Slip and Slide

Heritage Park--This is the Place Monument

Last Summer we tried to go to Heritage Park and got there a little too late to see anything. This year we went and had a great time despite the heat. If you haven't ever been you should go. It is a little pioneer village that has demonstrations like watering the garden and washing clothes like the pioneers did. There is a train ride and petting zoo and pony rides.

Here are Mattison and Meg and Ethan checking out the peacock.

The kids doing something to the wool before it is spun into yarn. Meg on a horse. Seriously don't mind her shoe and sock choice. First of all she always has to wear a dress, but I told her she had to wear tennins shoes since her high heel shoes would get dirty. She put on some tennis shoes and tried dancing in them and said "Princess can't dance in these." She wore them with her princess socks and after awhile they shoes were hurting her heels. Luckily (planned in case of a situation like this) I had her crocs there. So here so is with her princess socks and crocs riding a horse.
The kids petting the goats. They loved the petting zoo part of the park.

BYU

The other day when we decided to go to BYU and visit my Dad at work. We hadn't been up to his office in awhile and wanted to show the kids the cool windows that are all around the building. We went up there with our cousins and then we went to the BYU Creamery. Not the one by Deseret Towers, it's closed. This is the Creamery on 9th that used to be Kent's market. I can't believe they tore down Deseret Towers. It sure makes things look different up there. After ice cream I took to girls over to the Bookstore and looked around. The Wilkinson Center has sure changed a lot. I need to take a walk across campus some day because I haven't been around there in a long time, but I'm afraid I might get lost!

Swimming

On the last day of school we went with a bunch of friends to the pool. Because Isabel's birthday was the next day and we were not having a big party we decided to bring cupcakes to share. It was fun because there were a lot of friends from the ward and also some from school who came to the pool. The girls had a lot of fun.

Last Day of School

School is finally over and the girls passed to the next grade--We were a little worried ;) On the last day of school Mattison had a readers theater. Here she is reading her part.

Here is a picture with Mattison and some of her friends. These two kids are going to be in her class next year too so she is very excited.
Here is a picture os Isabel in her classroom on the last day of school.

Here she is with her teacher. We are going to miss her. She was such a great teacher and is going to a different school next year. Whoever gets her is very lucky. Isabel has learned so much from her.

Happy Birthday Isabel

This is a late post but we have been really busy so I am playing catch up now. We can't believe that Isabel is 7 now. She is such a great girl who always helps out when we need it. She is a super cleaner and the first one ready in the morning. We love you Izzy!

Hooray!

School is finally out and we got track 5. For those of you not on year-round school that is the track most people want. It is like winning the lottery. I get so nervous when I am opening the letter telling me what they got and then it's high fives all around.

We also got to go swimming with a bunch of friends from the school. I took some cupcakes and handed them out because it's Isabel's birthday tomorrow. We went out to eat tonight since we won't be around tomorrow night. Isabel picked the spot--McDonald's. Can't complain that she is still picking the cheap restaurants.

Today Meg wanted me to put on a movie for her. She said "please mom. I'll give you 2 dollars". She doesn't have any money and 2 dollars isn't enough!

Fun with some girls

On Saturday my friend Randi called and decided that she and Emily would make a quick trip to Vegas, (she works for an airline and flies free). Mattison and Isabel were totally excited because they LoVe playing with Emily. So we went and picked them up Saturday night and Mattison and Emily and Isabel had a great time playing all kinds of crazy things that keep them entertained for hours.

Of course I had to head out to Kohls with Randi and Melissa and Kristin C. to have some good times looking for bargins and trying on make-up. This is a favorite girls night out activity. So here is Melissa sporting the makeup that Randi put on. I can't believe Melissa was allowing this to go on. She has a phobia of clowns and Randi made her look like one. Don't worry Melissa got Randi back when she did her makeup.
Kristin and I did our own make-up (did you see Melissa's?) and I choose the purple tones. They even had purple mascara. I did have electric blue in 7th grade. Here is the final product. It's hot I know. We were all trying to blow kisses and I just couldn't do it and take the picture. I guess I'm not that co-ordinated, plus I was laughing too much.
To all my other girlfriends who have gone to Kohls with me to try on make-up I missed you and can't wait to take you next time--kisses to you from all of us!

Denny's

It's so great that Denny's has "Kids Eat Free Saturday's" . Since there was a ward party Saturday night and a few friends were going we all decided to go to Denny's first. We all ordered water and then had a fabulous meal (as good as Denny's meals are) without having to pay for the kids.

Flashback Friday--Clothing in the early '90's

While I was up in Utah this past weekend my sister-in-law looked at some of my old dance pictures and said I had to post them. She was laughing at my guess jeans. I mean, I know she had some too. So here are some pictures of me in my best outfits, because that is what you wear to dances you know.

Here is my very first date--1990. I wore my Ralph Lauren Polo shirt with black Guess jeans with zippers at the ankles. Notice the socks matching the shirt and the shoes matching the jeans. My friend Emily was also sporting the Guess jeans as well.

Here is a picture where my socks are coordinating with my shirt--arygyle socks no less. Notice the pegged pant legs and suede penny loafter--so hot.

Okay, this guy was a freak so I cut him out of the picutre. More Guess jeans and I am wearing my Gap shirt with matching socks. When you would buy a shirt at the Gap back then they would have a wall behind the counter with socks that matched and always ask you if you wanted the socks too. Of course, wanting to be in style, I purchased the socks. I am also wearing my Esprit shoes, which I loved.

And this outfit is super rad. It was the jailhouse look of all stripes--from the Gap in my defense though--again with the Esprit shoes. At least I was not wearing floral cutains as clothes. No offense to those in the picture who are, it was the 90's.

Maybe one day I will thrill you with the "semi-formal" dance pictures and you will be in awe of the beautiful dresses that were worn then--go Jessica McClintock. (google that you youngsters.)

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July weekend. We started by going to the stake patriotic fireside. It is really cool. We have a choir and orchestra that plays and has a cool slide show of people who have been in or are in the military. The best part of the fireside is when they sing the songs that go with each of the military groups and those people who have been in or are in stand up for thier song. It's so moving to see some of the really old vets stand up.

After the fireside we came back to our house and walked over to the outside of our development to watch some fireworks. The city has a big celebration on the 3rd and shoot off fireworks from the field right by us. Several of our friends come over and we all watch the fireworks together.

Here is Mattison and Isabel with "Scotty" thier stuffed animal watching the fireworks.
Here is Meg with her friend before the fireworks started.
The next morning we surprised the girls at 5:00 in the morning and went up to Utah. We had been planning this for awhile, but didn't tell them about it. They really didn't ask many questions when we left because they were too sleepy. When we were almost to Cedar City Mattison finally started asking questions. Here is how it went

M "Where are we?"
K "We are going to get breakfast for Dad."
M "Why are we driving so far?
K "Because they have good McDonald's here"
M "Then are we just driving home?"
K "Maybe we will go to a movie too."
M "We don't have our clothes."

We finally told them we were going up to see Grandma and Grandpa and Nana and Bubba (that's Grandma and Grandpa Thomas for those of you who are confused).

When we got to Utah I gave them some clothes to change into-new Hannah Montana shirts. We went over to Matt's parents and then they got the tickets to the "hottest show on the 4th". Here they are being excited abou the tickets to the Stadium of Fire with Miley Cyrus.

Of course before we left to that we had a BBQ and birthday cake for Matt.

Here are the girls with thier cousins outside of the Stadium.

We had great seats (4th row) and so we could really enjoy the show. Thanks Nana and Bubba. The cool thing is their friends, the Faulkners, had seats a few rows behind us so they got to see them while we were there.
Here are the girls and their cousins rockin' out to Miley. It was a great night, but we were really tired by the time it was done. We didn't get home until midnight, but it was worth it.
